Teaching

I walk on the waxed surface,
Its shine makes me nervous.
I look around at the faces,
None I recognise in these new places.

I do not give into fear,
Be a role model for my peers.
I do not shake or tremble,
Watch my students assemble.

I may be teaching my first class,
But I pray it won’t be my last.
I plan to touch and influence many,
Maybe even the next Newton or Bernoulli.

I do not ask for fame,
Teaching itself is big game.
I am proud to say,
Making a difference is my day.
